TrueNAS VS. Proxmox

I’m new to the homelab in all aspect. I do know a little about IT. So, with that been said. Should I learn Proxmox or TrueNAS? Or should I say which one I should start with first? I do get TrueNAS a little more then Proxmox I think, I just have to start working with it.

Let me know what do you guys think.

Hi!

I think that you confuse some things. TrueNAS is a NAS software Network Attached Storage its primary goal is to share files in a cloud. Proxmox on the other hand is a hypervisor it manages virtual machines. On TrueNAS you’re limited to the nature of NAS, on Proxmox you can do anything. Want to install nextcloud? Create VM and install nextcloud in it, want to install mail server? The same. You can have as many VMs as your hardware will allow it

Which one should you start with first? I would start with Proxmox, but that’s my opinion (for the record - you can install TrueNAS in Proxmox).

Best,
Miro

Good day, i know there’s a major difference. I’m just wanted to figure out is proxmox would be better to run my nas on. I dabble in VM’S and that’s cool cause i do have a Linux lad i practice my admin skills on.

So thank you for your information. I realized i need proxmox to continue my learning and advancing my knowledge.
