Hi all!

I attended two talks about NixOS at North West Linux Fest, and I was compelled to dig down into the NixOS rabbit hole. The talk about the NixBook project was very cool.
I’m still learning, but here are my thoughts:
I’ve got some ansible playbooks and some bash scripts that help me deploy apps quickly when I want to test a new a distro or stand up another Linux computer. I’ve not down to the detail of managing dot files in git yet, but what intrigued me about NixOS was that not only can dot files be managed, but the application & desktop configurations.
I installed NixOS on a spare laptop and quickly learned the NixOS config files. I created a configuration with all of my apps (some flat pak apps) and expected the NixOS install to take a long time due to all of the apps I put in the config file. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the install was very quick.
I have not dug down the rabbit hole deep enough to get into flakes yet, but I intend to at some point.
I can really see the appeal for NixOS as a server OS, especially for quickly building docker/kubernetes nodes.
I’m still learning and messing around with when I have some spare time, but so far I really like it.
South East Linux Fest is one week from today and I see several talks about NixOS on the schedule. I will be attending those to learn more.
@kazimierzkrauze I have been running Debian on the back end and Arch on the front end for a couple of years now and I am very comfortable with this, but I can see me moving to NixOS on the front end at some point. I, too, really love the reproducibility.
