Review on Oracle Linux

Hi Jay,

Just a thought, It would be interesting to see your opinion on Oracle Linux with UEK, from a linux professional point of view.

Thank you and have a nice day ahead.

It’s literally a RHEL Clone with a better kernel. I used it in production. RHEL clones are boring. But they are boring by the fact that they are stable and there is not a lot of things going wrong with them.

You can use the older kernel if you have some weird program that requires compatibility with RHEL kernel, but UEK works well for most stuff, I never used the older kernel.

One really annoying thing about Oracle is that they maintain their own EPEL repo, which appeared to have less stuff than CentOS from what I could remember. I don’t recall what I couldn’t find in oracle-epel, but I know I didn’t find it.
