Proxmox split cm and vm bridges

Enjoy Jay’s videos and started dabbling with Proxmox. When I got to Lesson 13, I tried setting up a separate bridge for VMs. Not having a second router, I got a Linksys MX4300(LN1301) to hook up through a USB-C adapter. I was a able connect to the setup (after a hard reset) and network cable to 192.168.1.1.

192.168.1.1 is main network running off an ORBI, So I set the LN1301 to 192.168.2.1. Linksy only allowed 192.168.xx.xx addresses. I set up VMBR1 to run the VMs and cable connected to the ORBI to use as the gateway.

I couldn’t find a way to disable the LN1301 WiFi so it’s possible that conflicts could be the result. I don’t have a switch and I’m not running PFSense. I can see the LN1301 WiFI is available with nmcli device wiifi.

Without firewall changes, I assume local traffic on 192.168.2.XX is isolated from the main network (192.168.1.xxx), including the ProxMox CM(?).

FWIW, I’m running ProxMox on a 16G Beelink i5.

Follow-up, FWIW:

I wasn’t able to disable WiFi on the LN1301. I do not think that was the issue when I started to have erratic network performance when connecting to the Proxmox control panel (the beelink is connected via a network cable - RJ45). Persistent slow connections and network drops prevented anything except one Proxmox system update.

Gave up on the LN and reverted to the single server model, which appears to be stable.
