Hi I have a 2011 Samsung RV509 with a 240 gb ssd, 6gb RAM and Intel Core i3 it runs Linux mint 22 and it runs smooth as butter
Over the past decade I’ve been able to continue using old hardware even when Microsoft decided that they were too old for upgrades. The oldest that I had was a 2007 Toshiba with 1,5GB of RAM… sadly had to retire it a couple of years ago but it has definitely paid for itself, thanks to Linux ![]()
my main laptop is, at this point, and old laptop- so Im lucky for this effect.
I try installing linux on people’s old machines to prove to them its not time to throw it out yet… always to great effect… but mixed response. hehe
One of my favorite projects recently was getting an 2017 MacBook Pro (Intel) running again with LInux. I started with Ubuntu and ended up with Mint. I could never figure out the audio exactly. I could get it to work, then any time the system updated it would kill the audio again. But It was a fun project. I only stopped using it because I got a crazy deal on a Framework 13. Which I run PopOS on for now.
